Problem: Kajima had to lift 15,000 tonnes of earth out of the basement of their headquarters to build a car park. This meant lifting excavated materials approximately 25m high. In addition to this the building was Grade 1 listed. The operation needed to be delicately-handled, fast and automated within the contract time-frame of only 6 weeks.

Solution: Lifting & Access designed a unique bulk material-handling system that consisted of 6 bespoke lifting beams. The majority of the lifting beams were attached to existing steel infrastructure; and where they weren't, new steel was used.   The beams enabled the 15,000 tonnes of earth to be lifted from road level, 6 storeys high. This solution successfully resolved Kajima's problem in 6 weeks.
